Transcendent Sound Phono Preamp
Customer Comments

Greg G. says:

Hey just wanted give a small review on this great phono stage from Bruce. This unit rocks, I have had a few that I thought were great, but this unit beats them all Rogue Magnum 66, McCormick micro (Mods) with the big Steve McCormick power supply. This unit is super quite, great sounding bass with clarity, no mush or overhang, the mids are the best thing I have heard from a phono, on Tom Scotts album ( one night /one day) the song New Orleans Knows, sung by Ronee Martin was AWESOME! Her voice just hung in the air between the speakers, I have NEVER heard my Vandersteen 1C sound this good! Some of my friends could not believe this Transcendent stuff was making Vandys sound this good. The phono has the same character of the other Transcendent gear, speed, clarity, Frequency extremes were there with authority, the phono stage lets all the instruments have there own space, this is the perfect companion for the GG and the T-8 which I own also. Thanks Bruce!!!!! AWESOME

The unit sounds wonderful. I have so far tried my beloved Solti Mahler 5 on Decca, Miles-G Evans' Porgy, Fischer-Dieskau singing Shubert. I had been using a pretty damned good diy solid state unit, but this is an another league entirely. The most obvious difference is the beautiful sonority of the strings, which with my previous phono pre sounded clear and well-resolved but often a bit grainy, not sweet and blooming as they should. And Miles' trumpet is sweeter too. Yet it is if anything 'quicker' - ie more precision and impact in the bass. And over all there is more clarity; the resolution, separate of instruments etc. is not obscured by the increased euphoniousness of tone; rather these are improved. Dieskau's voice is here in my living room, no question...
.... Well Bruce this may be the most conventional of your designs but it seems to me to be a complete success, a music-making machine that will provide ample pleasure.

I got the phono pre-amp working. It appears to be as quiet as you say it is. It also seems to improve the response of my cartridge, which I had thought to be severely rolled off at the top end. I have no theory to explain this, as the previous pre-amp measured O.K.  Once again, the forces of good triumph over evil.
